Influencer and Celebrity Approved Styles for Your Festive Wardrobe

Indian Festivals are the best reason to glam up and wear your favorite silver jewelry and dress up. With wedding season also right around the corner, it’s time to drape yourself in that one fit you know will suit an occasion perfectly. Unsure of how to style your silver jewelry for an Indian festival? No worries, this blog is here to help you with that! No matter the occasion, Paksha has you covered.  Indian festivals are all about the act of worshipping a certain god or goddess on the days that are important to them. Some of the most important festivals in Hindu worship are:   Diwali  Ganesh Chaturthi  Raksha Bandhan  Krishna Janmashtami  Holi  The folklore about each festival establishes the traditions that are followed to date. These festivals are carried on with pomp and joy, celebrating the arrival or seasonal change that is associated with each god or goddess. In this blog, come along as we take you through what you can wear for these major festivals, and how to style your jewelry to shine bright at each of them!  Diwali  One of the most awaited festivals, second to none other than Navratri, this festival of lights is an end-of-year delight! Connected to both the return of Lord Ram from his 14-year exile from Ayodhya as well as a time of wealth, the three-day to month long period of Diwali is an unforgettable end of the year occasion.  Folklore:  The reason why people pray to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi during Diwali is that Lord Ram is said to have prayed to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi as soon as he returned to Ayodhya, which is why people pray to these two gods during this period. Two days before Diwali is Dhanteras, when people are encouraged to buy gold, silver, and jewelry for Goddess Lakshmi to bless them with economic growth.  A celebrity look we think you’d love to try: Sukhmani Kaur has the perfect style for Diwali, with a magenta lehenga blouse combo that perfectly complements her Paksha jewelry, the Satkriti Silver Chaandbali Earrings and the Kvan Silver Gold Plated Silver Ring. You can choose to pair these beautiful pieces of silver jewelry with anything else in your jewelry closet. Raksha Bandhan  Next up, we have everyone’s favorite festival, Raksha Bandhan! It celebrates the bond between a brother and sister. In this festival, a sister (younger or older) ties a string around her brother’s wrist (cousin, sibling, or even someone she considers a brother), symbolizing his promise to protect her from evil at all costs.  Folklore:  Raksha Bandhan is another festival that comes from an amalgamation of folklore drawing from at least three main stories.   Goddess Lakshmi and Bali:  The first story comes from the Puranas, which say that once Lord Vishnu had taken back the three Lokas from the demon king Bali, the latter asked Lord Vishnu to remain with him forever in return. Lord Vishnu is forced to oblige, but his wife, Goddess Lakshmi, is unsettled by this. She approaches Bali while disguised as a Brahmin woman, and tied him a Rakhi, symbolizing their relationship as siblings. As a gift, she asks Bali to allow Lord Vishnu to return to their abode, to which Bali agrees.  The Legend of Santoshi Maa:  It is said that the twin sons of Lord Ganesha were quite upset by the fact that they did not have a sister who would tie them a Rakhi for the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. This spurred Lord Ganesha to create the goddess Santoshi Maa out of divine flames and then tied Rakhis to both of his sons.  Krishna and Draupadi:  In the epic of Mahabharata, Draupadi ties a Rakhi to Krishna, accepting him as her brother. He promised to come to her whenever she needed his help. Then, during the Chirharan act of the Mahabharata, he comes to her aid as she calls out to him, performing his brotherly duties and protecting her from the Kauravas.  Shop the Look:  For this momentous occasion, why not adorn yourself like the beautiful Prerna Mehra? Raksha Bandhan is a festival of both acceptance and love among siblings, so you can choose to wear whatever makes you feel the most comfortable!    Adorn yourself with the fabulous Satkriti Silver Chaandbali Earrings, the Tushti Silver Jadau Guttapusallu Necklace and the Vikasa Jadau Silver Bangle Kada. This beautiful combination of the guttapusalu necklace, chaandbali earrings and bangle can also be dressed up or down according to your attire. These versatile designs from Paksha are sure to make your Raksha Bandhan even better!  Krishna Janmashtami  Krishna Janmashtami is the sacred day of Lord Krishna’s birth. Generally occurring between the months of August and September, this auspicious day falls on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha of the Hindu calendar. On this day, most households pray to Lord Krishna and make his favorite foods and celebrate the day of his arrival on this plane.  Folklore:  On the night of his birth, Lord Krishna had to be whisked away in secret to avoid his evil uncle Kamsa from killing him. As the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu, it was predicted that the eighth child of his mother, Devaki, would kill Kamsa. After knowing this, his uncle went on a rampage, killing every child born to Devaki until Krishna was born, allowing his father, Vasudev to transport him to safety in the middle of the night. Shop the Look:  On the auspicious occasion of Krishna Janmashtami, whether you’re attending a puja at home, at the temple, or going to watch the re-enactment of the Krishna Leela in your locality, it is important to look your best! You may not always want to drape yourself in ornaments for this occasion, so you can look to keep the focus on your outfit instead of your jewelry.  Ananya Panday wearing the Shukti Jadau Silver Jhumki Earrings and the Arka Moissanite Silver Finger Ring Why not look to enhance your outfit like Ananya Panday with the Shukti Jadau Silver Jhumki Earrings and the Arka Moissanite Silver Finger Ring? Sure, it’s more on the simpler side, but it’s best when you want to focus on your outfit more.   These pieces of Jadau jewelry are the best way to enhance your favorite lehenga, saree, or kurta-churidar combo. Made with red enameling, a mixture of clear moissanite stones, and green polki, the Shukti earrings are the perfect enhancement to your outfit.  Ganesh Chaturthi  On the auspicious occasion of Lord Ganesha’s birth, one seeks to pray for as much prosperity, joy and the destruction of obstacles to be brought with the symbolic homecoming of the idol. With the chants of sukha-karta, dukha-harta (bringing happiness and the destruction of sadness), let the festivities bring you joy and take away all your sorrows with jewelry as well!   Myth:  One day, as Goddess Parvati felt lonely in the absence of Lord Shiva at their holy abode, she decided to create a child. She made an idol out of clay and brought it to life, and asked the boy to guard the bathroom door as she went to bathe. A few minutes after she went inside, Lord Shiva returned and was stopped by the young boy. Lord Shiva, astonished by the audacity of this young boy to stop him from entering his own abode, threw his trident at the boy and severed his head. In the events that followed, the gods managed to find an elephant that lay with its head facing the south and replace the boy’s head with the head of the elephant, restoring his life with the help of the rest of the pantheon of gods.  In the same way that Goddess Parvati evoked life into the clay idol, life is invoked into the idols kept for puja until the final day of the puja, when the idol of Lord Ganesha is allowed to dissolve in a body of water.  Shop the Look:  This holy occasion calls for a saree look, doesn’t it? Whether it’s your best navvari saree or your mom’s Kancheevaram classic, choose jewelry that will suit the saree and occasion. In this case, it is best to wear something like what Shruti Hasan is wearing here: Shruti Hasan wearing a beautiful moissanite and polki ensemble mentioned below  Look to pair an elegant Nakshi necklace like the Nakshi Moissanite Silver Temple Necklace, and the Saira Moissanite Nakshi Jhumki Earrings. This heavy nakshi set will set the scene for the beautiful occasion graced by all the prayers and happiness of bringing Ganesha into the household. To add to the beauty of this nakshi set, you can add the Mohini Polki Silver Bangle and the Mrunali Moissonite Silver Finger Ring to your outfit to elevate your look even further. Navratri Our next festival is Navratri, one of the most awaited festivals world-over. The arrival of Goddess Durga brings so much joy to so many households. In each of her avatars, Goddess Durga brings positivity, happiness, and strength into the lives of all who pray to her. As you go from one pandal to the next, from one household to the next, and as you celebrate the enchantment of Maa Durga’s journey with us, bring it together with silver jewelry from Paksha!  Folklore:  The demon Mahishasur (Buffalo Demon) once attacked heaven and enslaved all the minor gods. The gods were strong but were unable to break free of their imprisonment and prayed to Shiva and Vishnu to help them. Angered by the audacity of the demon, the holy trio of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva came together to create Navadurga – an amalgamation of the strengths of 16 gods (including Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) and their weapons. When the demon Mahishasur encountered the Goddess, he fell in love with her and asked her to marry him. The goddess agreed, but only if she could kill the demon. Thus began the nine-day-long battle, in which she defeated Mahishasur in each of her nine glorious forms - Shaila Putri, Brahmacharini, Chandra ghanta, Kushmanda, Skanda Mata, Katyayani, Kaalaratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhi Datri. After she defeats the demon, she cuts off his head in her final form.  Shop the Look:  When celebrating the strength and glory of the demon’s defeat, you always dress to look your best. While going from one pandal or puja to another, you want to ensure your jewelry and you are shining! Shruti Hasan wearing the Padhma Signature Silver Earrings and the Padhma Classic Grandeur Silver Choker Make a statement this Navratri with jewelry that is sure to stand out! Like Shruti Hasan has exemplified with this gorgeous lehenga and the Padhma Signature Silver Earrings with the Padhma Classic Grandeur Silver Choker. You can always look to mix and match metals with statement necklaces, and mix jewelry styles to create your own perfect look. Experiment and flex your strengths this Navratri with Paksha jewelry!   Holi  We end with Holi, a festival heralding the advent of spring after a long course of winter, along with the celebration of good winning over evil. The festivities for this festival begin as early as the night prior, with the ritual of Holika Dahan. In this ritual, a large pyre is built and burnt, while people dance around it, singing praises of Lord Vishnu and Krishna.  The second half of the festival is celebrated with the help of colors, and people go around putting colors on each other. People prepare and drink an intoxicating drink called bhang.  Folklore:  Long ago, there existed a demon king called Hiranyakashipu, who was blessed with a boon by Lord Brahma, that he could not be killed by a man, nor animal, from neither inside nor out, and by no weapons. This made him extremely proud, and he announced that all his subjects, including his son, Prahlad, should worship him.    Prahlad was an ardent worshiper of Lord Vishnu, and refuses to bow down to his father, so Hiranyakashipu convinces his sister Holika to kill Prahlad by seating him in fire, as Holika had received a boon that made her immune to fire. Holika follows her brother’s orders, making Prahlad sit on her lap while seated in the middle of a raging fire. Unaware that this boon only worked if she was alone, she burns to death while Prahlad remains untouched by the fire since he chanted the name of Vishnu while he was sitting on his aunt’s lap.  The ritualistic burning of the fire is symbolic of the death of the demoness Holika, which is why it is called Holi, in memory of the incident.  A second festival is also celebrated after sunrise on the day of Holi. This festival indicates the day that goddess Parvati made her move on Lord Shiva with the help of Kamadev. The story goes that Lord Shiva was in the middle of a deep penance to mourn the loss of his first wife, Sati. Goddess Parvati, unable to rouse Lord Shiva from his meditative state, takes the help of the god of love, Kamadev, who happens to be passing by with his wife. Kamadev shoots Lord Shiva with an arrow laced with bhang to make him fall in love with Goddess Parvati. Angry at being roused from his meditation, Shiva opens his third eye, and burns Kamadev to ashes. In honor of this, people drink bhang and play with colors.  Shop the Look:   For this festival, you’ll likely have to wake up quite early to set up for the Holika Dahan in the morning and then be ready to have a blast playing with colors for the rest of the day.   For the morning’s puja and bonfire, why not wear something light and simple, like Akshita Banj in Paksha’s Citrine Scorpio Zodiac Layered Gold Plated Silver Necklace, Aquamarine Pisces Zodiac Gold Plated Silver Earrings, and the Aquamarine Pisces Zodiac Gold Plated Silver Chain Bracelet. Wear this attractive set from our Nipuna Rasi collection, and then keep it safely before going off to play Holi with friends and family.   We recommend that you do not wear your Paksha jewelry while playing around water and colored pigments as they can stain your jewelry, while prolonged exposure to water without proper cleaning and timely drying could cause the gold-plated silver to tarnish and lose its sheen. Conclusion Now that you’ve had a look at our recommendations, it’s time to find what works for you! Indian Silver jewelry is timeless, easy to maintain, and has heirloom potential. Savor each memory you make with your Paksha jewelry, and don’t be afraid to switch it up! Follow our blogs to stay updated on the newest silver jewelry trends.

7 valuable benefits of sterling silver - a well-researched guide from a reputed house of jewelry artisans and makers

on Mar 12 2023
It’s not every day that you buy jewelry. It’s an annual occurrence–quarterly if you are one of the lucky ones, and now monthly if you read this seriously. Financial wisdom states that jewelry is an optimal choice for investments, especially in Indian households. You aren’t wrong–purchasable in small quantities, the ability to wear it daily, and a liquid asset–what more do we want? So far, gold and platinum have been waving their path into the hearts of ladies and their homes. And as good an investment as gold is, we can’t forget the emerging hero of metals–sterling silver.   Let’s look at seven benefits of having sterling silver in your treasure box  Easy on the Wallet  The mighty silver isn’t limited to just the charm and shine of the colour but is also quite affordable and reasonable when compared to the other metals in its family. Sterling silver is different from fine silver due to its added copper, resulting in lower production costs and selling prices.  Health-Conscious  This metal is surprisingly great at keeping your health in check, both mental and physical. It is a common perception and fact that silver boosts your immunity, destroys antibacterial bacteria, prevents infections, and also calms the mind. Many Indian women wear heavy anklets for preventative purposes. Not only is it pretty, but it’ll also look after you like no doctor did!   Durability  Deny all you want, but clumsiness is a gene we’re all cursed with, but that shouldn’t limit us. Sterling silver is durable, unlike its counterpart, which is fine silver. The copper in it gives it the power to withstand wear and tear like no other–don’t bump into a bus; it’s durable, not immortal.  Liquidity  This benefit is catching the most eyes, we know. Silver is a liquid asset that can easily be sold for cash when required. A good investment that can be easily traded in hard times. Here’s hoping it never comes to that!  Diversity of Products  Sterling silver comes in various options and styles for you to choose from. Rings, anklets, bangles, bracelets, earrings, or a necklace –there’s one for everyone. Whether you’re into traditional designs or a more contemporary, intricate style, you get what you want. And the best part? It is gender-neutral. You can just as easily rock a silver necklace as your significant other.  Sustainability  This one’s for the eco-friendly folks. Sterling silver can be recycled and reused, a healthy environment option. Silver jewelry products are responsibly sourced, as most silver mines use ethical and sustainable practices.   Wearable Investment  Let’s give this ‘look pretty, feel pretty’ a new vibe with sterling silver. An investment you can wear, at all times, through thick and thin. It’s low maintenance which ensures no more running to the store to get your stuff cleaned, simply take a soft cloth, and you’re good to go.   To sum it up–sterling silver is a smart option for anyone looking to stand out from the ordinary in terms of aesthetics and investment. Its longevity, sustainability, affordability, health benefits, and the various styles it comes in, make it worth every penny. This metal presents itself with an option to start small, take a minimal piece of jewelry, and then go on adding to it.
