She uses recycled metals and ethically sourced gems, challenging the industry’s traditional practices and setting a new standard for conscious luxury. Female Designers Who Defied Norms and Built Iconic Brands For years, the jewelry industry was led by men, but women designers have stepped in, bringing fresh creativity, craftsmanship, and innovation–changing the landscape of this industry forever.  Ileana Makri, a Greek-born jewelry designer, gained worldwide acclaim for her bold, meaningful designs that push the boundaries of conventional jewelry. Many women entrepreneurs are taking steps to revive ancient jewelry-making techniques, ensuring that valuable skills are passed down through generations. These women are working to preserve cultural heritage while pushing boundaries in design. One notable example is Pippa Small, a British jewelry designer known for working closely with indigenous artisans in developing countries to create sustainable and ethical jewelry. Her designs incorporate ancient techniques such as hand-forging and stone carving, reviving heritage-making traditions while ensuring fair wages for artisans and promoting sustainability. These women are demonstrating that the future of jewelry isn’t just about innovation, it's about honoring and revitalizing the past to create something timeless and meaningful. Winfrey's story encourages women to break free from societal constraints and pursue their unique visions of success.  In Bollywood, the journey for outsiders—especially women—is just as challenging. Without a film background, she made her mark with strong, meaningful roles in films like Pink, Thappad, and Saand Ki Aankh, portraying complex female characters that challenge stereotypes. Now, with her own production house, Outsider Films, she is set to amplify diverse voices and stories that deserve the spotlight. How Iconic Movie Moments Redefined Women's Style

on Feb 28 2025
From setting trends to introducing new fashion, movies have always played a big role. Since the very beginning, the influence of the movies has been huge, so much so that even typical people started imagining their lives based on movie stories. And till now, if we look around, the situation is the same. Among the various elements of cinematic fashion, jewelry has played a pivotal role in creating iconic looks and memorable moments. From dazzling diamonds to  silver jewelry, cinema has a rich history of using jewelry to make bold statements. Women, too, carried themselves very boldly. This redefined the women’s style. Let’s talk about the fascinating intersection of cinema and fashion, and discover how this redefined women's style. How Classic Actresses Set Jewelry Trends Still Loved Today? Imagine it's the late '70s, '80s, or '90s, a time when the cinema started influencing at large, and classic actresses like Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, and Elizabeth Taylor were on big screens. You go to their movies, and what do you see? Of course, their acting prowess, but not only this, it's their iconic jewelry too. These beautiful women were the trendsetters, and even today, their style inspires fashion. For instance, Audrey Hepburn's depiction of Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's movie changed the way women viewed elegance. The necklace she wore became a symbol of sophistication. Even Marilyn Monroe's infamous moment in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes where she serenades her lover in the “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” number is another example. Similarly, Elizabeth Taylor, often called “the queen of diamonds,” was renowned for her stunning collection, including the iconic Taylor-Burton diamond, gifted to her by Richard Burton. These women, through their roles, made silver jewelry, and extravagant gemstones a must-have in every woman’s wardrobe.  Most Memorable Jewelry Moments in Cinema There's no denying the fact that some moments in film history are forever engraved in our minds, particularly when it comes to jewelry. One of the most unforgettable scenes is from the movie Titanic, where Rose (Kate Winslet) wears the Heart of the Ocean necklace—a large blue diamond—around her neck. This piece of jewelry is not just a fashion statement but a symbol of love, loss, and the tragic sinking of the ship, making it one of the most iconic pieces of jewelry in cinematic history. You remember this, right? If we take a look at another noteworthy moment in film history, then it will be from The Great Gatsby (2013), where Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan) wears an array of extravagant jewelry that reflects her character’s glamour and opulence. That woman had power! The intricate designs of the jewelry were carefully chosen to reflect the decadence of the Roaring Twenties, adding layers to the character's personality. Even in Breakfast at Tiffany's, Hepburn’s simple yet elegant pieces, like the pearl necklace and diamond bracelet, continue to influence silver jewelry collections worldwide. Such jewelry moments have cemented their place in cinema as cultural symbols of status and sophistication, with modern versions of these jewelry styles often available through dedicated silver jewelry online stores. How Modern Films Shifted Jewelry from Extravagant to Elegant? While classic films showcased larger-than-life jewels, modern cinema has moved toward showcasing more refined and elegant pieces, shifting away from the excessiveness of the past. The perfect example of this is films like The Devil Wears Prada (2006). This film introduced a more minimalist approach to jewelry, focusing on subtle pieces that communicate sophistication without overshadowing the character’s overall aesthetic. Yes, it’s true. Also, the trend toward more understated, elegant jewelry became prominent in movies like La La Land (2016), where Emma Stone’s character wore delicate gold and silver necklaces that symbolized a young woman’s journey to success and self-discovery. These smaller, more intimate pieces, including silver necklaces and rings, have become highly sought-after in today’s fashion world, allowing wearers to express elegance through simplicity. The emphasis on understated elegance over flashy jewelry has led to the rise of subtle, high-quality silver jewelry, available in various online stores, including sleek silver necklace sets perfect for modern-day fashionistas. What Jewelry Represents in Character Development? In many films, jewelry isn’t just an accessory; it serves as a vital part of character development. For example, in The Lord of the Rings, the One Ring is central to the plot and the character arcs of Frodo and Gollum. This simple piece of jewelry has far-reaching symbolic significance, representing power, temptation, and corruption. Similarly, in Sex and the City, Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic engagement ring from Mr. Big serves as a symbol of her romantic journey. The extravagant and somewhat impractical design of the ring contrasts with Carrie’s personal style, highlighting her evolving understanding of love, commitment, and independence. Jewelry, especially when depicted in cinema, is often used to define a character's wealth, status, and personality traits. Sometimes, bold women who have no fears, also prefer heavy jewelry.  For example, a subtle silver necklace set might emphasize a character’s quiet elegance, while a bold diamond necklace could signify a character's authority or luxury. How Movie-Inspired Jewelry Becomes a Fashion Statement? When a movie features iconic jewelry, it often leads to a fashion phenomenon.  After Titanic's release, replicas of the Heart of the Ocean necklace became hot sellers, with many jewelry brands offering similar designs.  Similarly, Breakfast at Tiffany's spawned countless designs inspired by the pearl necklaces and diamond accessories worn by Hepburn’s character. In modern times, movie-inspired jewelry often carries a more personal touch. Fans of specific films may look to silver jewelry online, for which Paksha is more suited to find pieces that mirror those worn by their favorite characters. Whether it’s a simple silver necklace, a bold silver bracelet, or a delicate pendant, these jewelry items transcend their cinematic origins and become wearable pieces of film history. Brands often capitalize on these moments by offering collections inspired by characters in popular films, allowing fans to connect with their favorite movie moments. Jewelry from movies like Harry Potter or Twilight continues to be highly sought after by collectors and fashion enthusiasts alike. Conclusion Jewelry in cinema has gone through many transformations, from the grand, opulent designs worn by classic stars to the understated elegance seen in modern films. Whether it’s a  silver necklace set, statement earrings, or a ring that plays a pivotal role in the plot, jewelry remains a powerful symbol of character development and style. In some cases, it represents strong independent women as well. As these iconic movie moments continue to inspire, jewelry pieces influenced by cinema will always hold a special place in fashion, making a statement far beyond the silver screen.

2025 Jewelry Forecast: Trends You’ll Love to Wear

on Jan 30 2025
As we step into 2025, the world of jewelry continues to evolve, blending timeless traditions with modern innovation. This year’s trends are an exciting mix of nostalgic elements and fresh ideas, offering something for everyone. Whether you’re drawn to the elegance of the past or looking to embrace bold, contemporary styles, 2025 is all about expressing individuality through jewelry.    Here’s a guide to the top jewelry trends for 2025 and how to incorporate them into your style effortlessly.    1. Statement Silver is Back  Silver jewelry has taken center stage again, and this time, it’s all about bold designs. Think chunky chains, oversized earrings, and sculptural rings that make a statement. For many, this trend brings a sense of nostalgia, evoking memories of the 90s when bold silver pieces were a staple.  Why We Love It: The resurgence of statement silver reminds us of how effortlessly it complements both traditional and modern outfits. Pair a chunky silver choker with a minimalist dress, or layer bold bracelets with your everyday wear for a striking yet elegant look.   2. Colorful Gemstones with a Story  This year, vibrant gemstones are taking center stage, but with a meaningful twist. Pieces featuring colorful stones, like Navaratna designs, are not just visually striking—they also hold cultural and spiritual significance.  Millennial Connection: Growing up, many of us admired our mothers’ or grandmothers’ Navaratna jewelry, often worn for its symbolism of balance and protection. Now, this nostalgic element is being reimagined with a modern touch.  How to Style: Let the colors shine by pairing these pieces with neutral or monochrome outfits. A simple black or beige saree or dress can serve as the perfect canvas for a vibrant Navaratna necklace or earrings.    3. Minimalism with a Twist  Minimalist jewelry remains a key trend, but in 2025, it’s all about unexpected details—like asymmetrical designs, geometric motifs, or two-toned finishes. This is perfect for those who prefer understated elegance with a hint of playfulness.  Why It’s Worth Trying: This trend speaks to the modern woman who values versatility. These pieces can transition seamlessly from work meetings to evening dinners, making them essential for a curated wardrobe.  Styling Tip: Opt for earrings or rings with sleek, modern lines to keep your look refined. A pair of asymmetrical studs or a dainty geometric necklace can elevate even the simplest outfit.    4. Reviving Vintage Designs  The charm of vintage-inspired jewelry continues to captivate in 2025. Think antique jhumkas, Victorian-inspired necklaces, or intricate temple motifs. These designs carry a sense of legacy and artistry, making them timeless additions to your collection.  Cultural Connection: For many, these designs are reminiscent of family heirlooms—pieces passed down through generations that tell stories of love and tradition. This emotional value is what makes vintage jewelry so special.    Styling Inspiration: Pair vintage-inspired jewelry with contemporary silhouettes for a striking contrast. For instance, a heavy temple necklace can transform a sleek gown into a statement-making ensemble.    5. Sustainable Choices  Sustainability continues to influence the jewelry world, with consumers prioritizing pieces that are ethically crafted and made to last. This trend isn’t just about materials—it’s about choosing timeless designs that you’ll cherish for years to come.  Why It Matters: Investing in sustainable jewelry aligns with a mindful lifestyle, promoting quality over quantity. Look for handcrafted pieces made with responsibly sourced materials.  How to Style: Choose versatile pieces that can be layered or styled differently to suit multiple occasions, ensuring you get the most out of your jewelry.    6. Playful Personalization  Jewelry with a personal touch is gaining popularity, from alphabet charms to birthstone pendants. These pieces not only make thoughtful gifts but also allow you to carry something meaningful close to your heart.  Modern Take: While charm jewelry has been around for decades, 2025 sees it evolving into more refined, minimalistic designs.  How to Embrace It: Layer an alphabet necklace with a birthstone pendant for a unique and personal look. These pieces are perfect for daily wear and hold sentimental value.    Final Thoughts    2025’s jewelry trends encourage you to embrace your individuality, whether through bold statement pieces, meaningful designs, or nostalgic nods to the past. What to Wear for New Year’s Eve: Bold Silver Jewelry to Make You Shine

on Dec 24 2024
As the clock inches closer to midnight and the world prepares to welcome a new year, the question arises: what will you wear to stand out at the celebration? Whether you’re braving the electric energy of Times Square, attending a glitzy party downtown, or hosting an intimate gathering at home, your outfit should exude confidence and individuality. This year, ditch the predictable sequins and glittery dresses. Instead, let bold silver jewelry take center stage and transform your New Year’s Eve ensemble into something truly unforgettable.  Why Silver Statement Jewelry?  Silver jewelry has a way of commanding attention without overwhelming the senses. It’s bold yet elegant, intricate yet versatile. Unlike gold, which often leans traditional, silver lends itself to experimentation, offering a perfect balance of modernity and timelessness.  For the diaspora looking to infuse cultural heritage into their NYE style, silver jewelry bridges the gap between tradition and contemporary fashion. It pairs seamlessly with both Western silhouettes and Indian-inspired attire, ensuring you stand out wherever the night takes you. Whether it’s the soft glow under party lights or the way it catches the camera flash, silver jewelry amplifies your look with a sophistication that’s hard to ignore.  And under the glittering lights of a New Year’s Eve celebration, silver’s subtle shimmer becomes a radiant highlight.   What to Look for in Statement Silver Jewelry  When choosing silver jewelry for New Year’s Eve, opt for designs that speak to your personal style while making a bold statement. Chunky, sculptural pieces are perfect for minimalists who want a single standout accessory, while those who love intricate details can explore traditional pieces with fine craftsmanship.  Consider versatility, too—can the piece complement more than one outfit? A statement choker, for example, can elevate a modern dress just as easily as it can pair with a saree. Similarly, layered necklaces and two-toned jewelry offer endless styling possibilities, making them timeless additions to your collection.  Pairing Bold Silver Jewelry with Your NYE Outfit  Here’s how you can style statement silver jewelry with different outfits to create a look that is anything but ordinary.  The Little Black Dress (LBD) + A Chunky Choker An LBD is a classic choice but pairing it with a bold traditional silver choker takes it to new heights. Choose a piece with intricate detailing or a sculptural design to add depth and personality. Let the choker take center stage by keeping other accessories minimal—a sleek pair of heels and a clutch are all you need.     A Sequin Saree + Layered Necklaces For those embracing their roots with an Indian touch, a metallic or sequin saree is perfect for NYE. Elevate this look with layered silver necklaces that cascade elegantly, complementing the shimmer of the saree. Look for pieces with a mix of textures—think floral motifs paired with geometric designs—to create a layered look that feels fresh and bold.     Pro Tip: Balance is key when layering. Vary the lengths and weights of your necklaces to avoid overwhelming your outfit.    A Monochrome Jumpsuit + A Sculptural Neckpiece Monochrome jumpsuits are effortlessly chic, but adding a statement necklace makes them unforgettable. A piece with contemporary lines or bold patterns enhances the clean silhouette of a jumpsuit, giving your outfit a sophisticated edge. Pair this look with sleek hair and dramatic heels to turn heads.  A Fusion Outfit + Two Toned Silver Jewelry Fusion outfits—a mix of Western cuts with Indian aesthetics—are perfect for NYE if you want a look that’s modern yet rooted in tradition. Pair an Indo-Western dress, such as a lehenga-inspired skirt with a crop top or a tailored blazer over a saree, with two-toned silver jewelry. Pieces combining oxidized silver with polished finishes add depth and dimension while bringing a distinctly desi edge. This look not only feels innovative but also celebrates your heritage in a fresh and exciting way.      A Celebration of Bold Choices  As you prepare to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new, let your style reflect the excitement and optimism of the season. By choosing bold silver jewelry, you’re not just making a fashion statement—you’re embracing a look that is fresh, unique, and undeniably you.  Remember, the key to standing out is confidence. Bold jewelry is an extension of that confidence—whether it’s a choker that demands attention, earrings that sway as you dance, or a layered necklace that tells a story.  This New Year’s Eve, stand out not just for what you wear but for the confidence with which you wear it. With the right outfit and Paksha’s silver jewelry, you’re ready to make a dazzling entrance and create unforgettable memories as the clock strikes twelve.

Nostalgic Celebrations: Diwali Traditions for the Diaspora

on Oct 30 2024
As Diwali approaches, a wave of nostalgia sweeps through the heart, reminding us of cherished memories made over the years. For many in the diaspora, this vibrant festival becomes more than just a celebration; it is a lifeline connecting us to our roots, allowing us to honor age-old traditions while embracing new ones. Living abroad may distance us from our homeland, but it does not diminish the power of our cultural identity. Instead, it enriches our experiences, creating a unique blend of tradition and modernity that defines our celebrations.     Embracing Tradition and Creating New Rituals  In the diverse landscape of the diaspora, the essence of Diwali transcends regional differences, uniting us as one South Asian community. Here, amidst the celebrations, we are not defined by our regional identities but by our shared heritage. Each Diwali is an opportunity to keep age-old rituals alive—meticulously cleaning our homes to invite prosperity, adorning our spaces with diyas, and creating colorful rangolis that mirror the vibrancy of our culture. These practices serve as reminders of our roots, helping us stay connected to the traditions passed down through generations.    However, this journey is not just about preservation; it is also about innovation. As we gather with friends and family, we blend traditional customs with new practices, creating a unique tapestry of celebrations that reflect our evolving identities. Whether it's cooking fusion recipes that honor our culinary roots or incorporating modern décor into our festive setups, we weave new traditions into the fabric of our celebrations, creating a home away from home.   Consider the ritual of exchanging sweets, which has taken on new meanings. Beyond sharing traditional Indian mithai, we find ourselves incorporating treats from local cultures, reflecting the diverse backgrounds of our new friends and neighbors. This fusion not only adds flavor to the celebrations but also strengthens the bonds we share with those around us, turning Diwali gatherings into multicultural experiences that honor both heritage and the world we live in.     Finding Our Way Back    As the world changes, so do our connections to our past. Many in the diaspora are rediscovering their roots, seeking to learn the languages of their ancestors, understanding the stories behind their family heirlooms, and actively participating in festivals that resonate with their identity. This journey back to our roots is not merely nostalgic; it is a celebration of resilience, a reminder that our heritage is a source of strength that can guide us in navigating our lives abroad.   The quest to reconnect with our cultural identity can manifest itself in various ways. Some may enroll in dance classes to learn traditional forms like Bharatanatyam or Kathak, while others might delve into the art of cooking traditional dishes from their childhood. This exploration serves not only as a means of self-discovery but also as a way to share these experiences with the next generation, ensuring that the stories of our ancestors and the flavors of our homeland continue to thrive.   Wearing a bindi, once a simple adornment, has evolved into a powerful symbol of cultural pride. For many, it represents a reclaiming of identity and an assertion of self-love. It’s empowering to embrace traditions that speak to our heritage, transforming each celebration into an affirmation of who we are. Similarly, wearing traditional jewelry has taken on new significance; these pieces become expressions of our individuality, as we blend contemporary styles with age-old designs to create looks that reflect our unique narratives.    This cultural resurgence fosters a deeper sense of community, as we come together to celebrate not just Diwali but also the myriads of festivals that enrich our heritage. From Holi to Raksha Bandhan, each occasion becomes an opportunity to celebrate our identity and share our traditions with friends and family.   Jewelry: The Final Touch of Heritage    As we adorn ourselves for Diwali, the pieces we choose carry more than just aesthetic appeal; they embody our cultural stories and personal journeys. Jewelry becomes a bridge between the past and present, linking us to family traditions while celebrating our unique identities. Each piece we wear—be it a necklace, a pair of earrings, or a bangle—serves as a testament to our commitment to honoring our heritage while embracing the new.   This Diwali, as we light the diyas and prepare our homes for the festivities, let us take a moment to reflect on the significance of our jewelry. Each piece is not merely an accessory but a symbol of our identity, a connection to our past, and a celebration of our present. Wearing our heritage proudly, we illuminate our celebrations, showcasing the beauty of our culture and the vibrant spirit of our community, no matter where we are in the world.   Conclusion: A Celebration of Heritage    As the lights twinkle and the air fills with laughter, let us honor our traditions and the timeless jewelry that accompanies our celebrations. Each piece is a reminder of the journey we’ve taken and the roots we cherish. This Diwali, let us celebrate not just the festival of lights but also the richness of our heritage that lives on in every sparkling ornament.   In embracing our traditions, we find a deeper connection to our identity and the joy that comes from celebrating Diwali, no matter where we are in the world. Let the beauty of our jewelry illuminate your festivities, serving as a reminder that even from afar, we are never truly separated from home. In every diya we light, every sweet we share, and every piece of jewelry we wear, we celebrate the indomitable spirit of our community—a spirit that continues to thrive and flourish, weaving together the old and the new in a beautiful tapestry of life.

How Temple Jewelry Motifs Reflect the Spiritual Essence of Diwali

on Oct 17 2024
The flicker of oil lamps, the fragrance of jasmine, the soft glow of silver and gold—Diwali is a festival that radiates warmth and light, a moment of profound spiritual renewal. In the midst of this celebration, adornment plays a quiet yet essential role, particularly when it comes to jewelry. In India, where traditions run deep, jewelry is more than ornamentation. It is a conduit of divine energy, a reflection of history, and, during Diwali, a symbol of reverence.  At Paksha, we see temple jewelry as the embodiment of this sacred light. Born in the hallowed corridors of ancient South Indian temples, temple jewelry finds its origins in devotion, artistry, and a deep-rooted spiritual connection that resonates perfectly with the essence of Diwali.  The Divine Origins of Temple Jewelry  Each piece of Indian temple jewelry is a story. It is a tribute to the deities of ancient temples, crafted with meticulous care and intended to be an offering to the gods. In the grandeur of temple architecture, these jewels once adorned idols in rituals, the glint of precious metals and gems mirroring the sanctity of the divine. Over time, what began as sacred adornment for the gods made its way into the hearts—and hands—of devotees.  The magic of temple jewelry lies not only in its beauty but also in the heritage it carries. Its intricate motifs, imbued with centuries of devotion, are not just symbols but expressions of faith. From the goddess Lakshmi, the harbinger of prosperity and wealth, to the lotus and peacock motifs representing purity and grace, each design reflects a deeper, spiritual meaning.  Symbolism in Every Detail  When we think of Goddess Lakshmi, her image is synonymous with Diwali, a festival centered on wealth, light, and new beginnings. Jewelry inspired by this goddess doesn't simply adorn; it invites her presence. Lakshmi motifs in temple jewelry are crafted to radiate the spirit of abundance—delicate representations of lotuses, coins, and elephants come alive in necklaces, earrings, and bangles, each symbolizing prosperity.  The lotus, too, is deeply tied to spiritual awakening, a bloom of beauty rising from the depths of the water. Adorning yourself with temple jewelry like the Vimala Moissanite Temple Silver Necklace Set that carries these motifs is more than a fashion statement—it is a conscious choice to align with a higher frequency, one that speaks to purity, rebirth, and enlightenment. This symbolism feels even more powerful during Diwali, a time when we seek to renew our spirits and homes.  Handcrafted Heritage: The Art of Creation  Craftsmanship lies at the heart of temple jewelry. To create each piece, artisans employ techniques passed down through generations. Lost-wax casting, granulation, and hand-engraving are all part of this delicate process, ensuring that every element is as refined as it is meaningful.  The process itself is a meditation, where each curve, each gemstone placement, and every divine symbol is infused with reverence. In the realm of silver, this process takes on a heightened elegance at Paksha. Our artisans reimagine temple jewelry by blending the age-old traditions of South India with contemporary interpretations, transforming sacred symbols into wearable art that transcends time.  Temple Jewelry in Diwali Rituals  As the flames of the Diwali lamps flicker, temple jewelry adds an extra layer of sanctity to the celebration. During Lakshmi Puja, wearing these motifs isn't just about beauty—it's about embodying the spirit of the goddess herself. The pieces, whether a Lakshmi Temple jewelry pendant like the Vibha Antique CZ Silver Pendant Necklace or a bangle adorned with intricate peacocks, elevate the wearer into a space of spiritual reverence, becoming a part of the ritual itself.    Temple jewelry, worn during the festival, can become a conversation between the divine and the adorned. It’s a tradition, a talisman of sorts, invoking blessings as you step into the warmth of the festive season.  A Timeless Legacy: From Generation to Generation  Just as Diwali itself is a celebration of heritage, temple jewelry is passed down through generations, carrying with its stories of the past and promises for the future. An heirloom piece is not only a reflection of your personal style but also of your connection to the lineage of spiritual symbolism. During Diwali, wearing a piece of temple jewelry is akin to wrapping oneself in the legacy of one’s ancestors, their prayers, their joys, and their devotion.  Closing Thoughts  At Paksha, we honor these ancient traditions while allowing them to evolve with time. Our silver and gold-plated temple jewelry is a celebration of this craftsmanship and heritage, designed to connect you with something more profound, something eternal. This Diwali, as the light of a thousand lamps illuminates your surroundings, lets your adornments reflect not just beauty, but the sacred energy of the festival itself.  Explore our collection to find temple jewelry pieces that resonate with the light within you, as we carry forward a legacy of spiritual elegance.

Indian Festivals are the best reason to glam up and wear your favorite silver jewelry and dress up. With wedding season also right around the corner, it’s time to drape yourself in that one fit you know will suit an occasion perfectly. Unsure of how to style your silver jewelry for an Indian festival? No worries, this blog is here to help you with that! No matter the occasion, Paksha has you covered.  Indian festivals are all about the act of worshipping a certain god or goddess on the days that are important to them. Some of the most important festivals in Hindu worship are:   Diwali  Ganesh Chaturthi  Raksha Bandhan  Krishna Janmashtami  Holi  The folklore about each festival establishes the traditions that are followed to date. These festivals are carried on with pomp and joy, celebrating the arrival or seasonal change that is associated with each god or goddess. In this blog, come along as we take you through what you can wear for these major festivals, and how to style your jewelry to shine bright at each of them!  Diwali  One of the most awaited festivals, second to none other than Navratri, this festival of lights is an end-of-year delight! Connected to both the return of Lord Ram from his 14-year exile from Ayodhya as well as a time of wealth, the three-day to month long period of Diwali is an unforgettable end of the year occasion.  Folklore:  The reason why people pray to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi during Diwali is that Lord Ram is said to have prayed to Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi as soon as he returned to Ayodhya, which is why people pray to these two gods during this period. Two days before Diwali is Dhanteras, when people are encouraged to buy gold, silver, and jewelry for Goddess Lakshmi to bless them with economic growth.  A celebrity look we think you’d love to try: Sukhmani Kaur has the perfect style for Diwali, with a magenta lehenga blouse combo that perfectly complements her Paksha jewelry, the Satkriti Silver Chaandbali Earrings and the Kvan Silver Gold Plated Silver Ring. You can choose to pair these beautiful pieces of silver jewelry with anything else in your jewelry closet. Raksha Bandhan  Next up, we have everyone’s favorite festival, Raksha Bandhan! It celebrates the bond between a brother and sister. In this festival, a sister (younger or older) ties a string around her brother’s wrist (cousin, sibling, or even someone she considers a brother), symbolizing his promise to protect her from evil at all costs.  Folklore:  Raksha Bandhan is another festival that comes from an amalgamation of folklore drawing from at least three main stories.   Goddess Lakshmi and Bali:  The first story comes from the Puranas, which say that once Lord Vishnu had taken back the three Lokas from the demon king Bali, the latter asked Lord Vishnu to remain with him forever in return. Lord Vishnu is forced to oblige, but his wife, Goddess Lakshmi, is unsettled by this. She approaches Bali while disguised as a Brahmin woman, and tied him a Rakhi, symbolizing their relationship as siblings. As a gift, she asks Bali to allow Lord Vishnu to return to their abode, to which Bali agrees.  The Legend of Santoshi Maa:  It is said that the twin sons of Lord Ganesha were quite upset by the fact that they did not have a sister who would tie them a Rakhi for the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. This spurred Lord Ganesha to create the goddess Santoshi Maa out of divine flames and then tied Rakhis to both of his sons.  Krishna and Draupadi:  In the epic of Mahabharata, Draupadi ties a Rakhi to Krishna, accepting him as her brother. He promised to come to her whenever she needed his help. Then, during the Chirharan act of the Mahabharata, he comes to her aid as she calls out to him, performing his brotherly duties and protecting her from the Kauravas.  Shop the Look:  For this momentous occasion, why not adorn yourself like the beautiful Prerna Mehra? Raksha Bandhan is a festival of both acceptance and love among siblings, so you can choose to wear whatever makes you feel the most comfortable!    Adorn yourself with the fabulous Satkriti Silver Chaandbali Earrings, the Tushti Silver Jadau Guttapusallu Necklace and the Vikasa Jadau Silver Bangle Kada. This beautiful combination of the guttapusalu necklace, chaandbali earrings and bangle can also be dressed up or down according to your attire. These versatile designs from Paksha are sure to make your Raksha Bandhan even better!  Krishna Janmashtami  Krishna Janmashtami is the sacred day of Lord Krishna’s birth. Generally occurring between the months of August and September, this auspicious day falls on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha of the Hindu calendar. On this day, most households pray to Lord Krishna and make his favorite foods and celebrate the day of his arrival on this plane.  Folklore:  On the night of his birth, Lord Krishna had to be whisked away in secret to avoid his evil uncle Kamsa from killing him. As the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu, it was predicted that the eighth child of his mother, Devaki, would kill Kamsa. After knowing this, his uncle went on a rampage, killing every child born to Devaki until Krishna was born, allowing his father, Vasudev to transport him to safety in the middle of the night. Shop the Look:  On the auspicious occasion of Krishna Janmashtami, whether you’re attending a puja at home, at the temple, or going to watch the re-enactment of the Krishna Leela in your locality, it is important to look your best! You may not always want to drape yourself in ornaments for this occasion, so you can look to keep the focus on your outfit instead of your jewelry.  Ananya Panday wearing the Shukti Jadau Silver Jhumki Earrings and the Arka Moissanite Silver Finger Ring Why not look to enhance your outfit like Ananya Panday with the Shukti Jadau Silver Jhumki Earrings and the Arka Moissanite Silver Finger Ring? Sure, it’s more on the simpler side, but it’s best when you want to focus on your outfit more.   These pieces of Jadau jewelry are the best way to enhance your favorite lehenga, saree, or kurta-churidar combo. Made with red enameling, a mixture of clear moissanite stones, and green polki, the Shukti earrings are the perfect enhancement to your outfit.  Ganesh Chaturthi  On the auspicious occasion of Lord Ganesha’s birth, one seeks to pray for as much prosperity, joy and the destruction of obstacles to be brought with the symbolic homecoming of the idol. With the chants of sukha-karta, dukha-harta (bringing happiness and the destruction of sadness), let the festivities bring you joy and take away all your sorrows with jewelry as well!   Myth:  One day, as Goddess Parvati felt lonely in the absence of Lord Shiva at their holy abode, she decided to create a child. She made an idol out of clay and brought it to life, and asked the boy to guard the bathroom door as she went to bathe. A few minutes after she went inside, Lord Shiva returned and was stopped by the young boy. Lord Shiva, astonished by the audacity of this young boy to stop him from entering his own abode, threw his trident at the boy and severed his head. In the events that followed, the gods managed to find an elephant that lay with its head facing the south and replace the boy’s head with the head of the elephant, restoring his life with the help of the rest of the pantheon of gods.  In the same way that Goddess Parvati evoked life into the clay idol, life is invoked into the idols kept for puja until the final day of the puja, when the idol of Lord Ganesha is allowed to dissolve in a body of water.  Shop the Look:  This holy occasion calls for a saree look, doesn’t it? Whether it’s your best navvari saree or your mom’s Kancheevaram classic, choose jewelry that will suit the saree and occasion. In this case, it is best to wear something like what Shruti Hasan is wearing here: Shruti Hasan wearing a beautiful moissanite and polki ensemble mentioned below  Look to pair an elegant Nakshi necklace like the Nakshi Moissanite Silver Temple Necklace, and the Saira Moissanite Nakshi Jhumki Earrings. This heavy nakshi set will set the scene for the beautiful occasion graced by all the prayers and happiness of bringing Ganesha into the household. To add to the beauty of this nakshi set, you can add the Mohini Polki Silver Bangle and the Mrunali Moissonite Silver Finger Ring to your outfit to elevate your look even further. Navratri Our next festival is Navratri, one of the most awaited festivals world-over. The arrival of Goddess Durga brings so much joy to so many households. In each of her avatars, Goddess Durga brings positivity, happiness, and strength into the lives of all who pray to her. As you go from one pandal to the next, from one household to the next, and as you celebrate the enchantment of Maa Durga’s journey with us, bring it together with silver jewelry from Paksha!  Folklore:  The demon Mahishasur (Buffalo Demon) once attacked heaven and enslaved all the minor gods. The gods were strong but were unable to break free of their imprisonment and prayed to Shiva and Vishnu to help them. Angered by the audacity of the demon, the holy trio of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva came together to create Navadurga – an amalgamation of the strengths of 16 gods (including Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) and their weapons. When the demon Mahishasur encountered the Goddess, he fell in love with her and asked her to marry him. The goddess agreed, but only if she could kill the demon. Thus began the nine-day-long battle, in which she defeated Mahishasur in each of her nine glorious forms - Shaila Putri, Brahmacharini, Chandra ghanta, Kushmanda, Skanda Mata, Katyayani, Kaalaratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhi Datri. After she defeats the demon, she cuts off his head in her final form.  Shop the Look:  When celebrating the strength and glory of the demon’s defeat, you always dress to look your best. While going from one pandal or puja to another, you want to ensure your jewelry and you are shining! Shruti Hasan wearing the Padhma Signature Silver Earrings and the Padhma Classic Grandeur Silver Choker Make a statement this Navratri with jewelry that is sure to stand out! Like Shruti Hasan has exemplified with this gorgeous lehenga and the Padhma Signature Silver Earrings with the Padhma Classic Grandeur Silver Choker. You can always look to mix and match metals with statement necklaces, and mix jewelry styles to create your own perfect look. Experiment and flex your strengths this Navratri with Paksha jewelry!   Holi  We end with Holi, a festival heralding the advent of spring after a long course of winter, along with the celebration of good winning over evil. The festivities for this festival begin as early as the night prior, with the ritual of Holika Dahan. In this ritual, a large pyre is built and burnt, while people dance around it, singing praises of Lord Vishnu and Krishna.  The second half of the festival is celebrated with the help of colors, and people go around putting colors on each other. People prepare and drink an intoxicating drink called bhang.  Folklore:  Long ago, there existed a demon king called Hiranyakashipu, who was blessed with a boon by Lord Brahma, that he could not be killed by a man, nor animal, from neither inside nor out, and by no weapons. This made him extremely proud, and he announced that all his subjects, including his son, Prahlad, should worship him.    Prahlad was an ardent worshiper of Lord Vishnu, and refuses to bow down to his father, so Hiranyakashipu convinces his sister Holika to kill Prahlad by seating him in fire, as Holika had received a boon that made her immune to fire. Holika follows her brother’s orders, making Prahlad sit on her lap while seated in the middle of a raging fire. Unaware that this boon only worked if she was alone, she burns to death while Prahlad remains untouched by the fire since he chanted the name of Vishnu while he was sitting on his aunt’s lap.  The ritualistic burning of the fire is symbolic of the death of the demoness Holika, which is why it is called Holi, in memory of the incident.  A second festival is also celebrated after sunrise on the day of Holi. This festival indicates the day that goddess Parvati made her move on Lord Shiva with the help of Kamadev. The story goes that Lord Shiva was in the middle of a deep penance to mourn the loss of his first wife, Sati. Goddess Parvati, unable to rouse Lord Shiva from his meditative state, takes the help of the god of love, Kamadev, who happens to be passing by with his wife. Kamadev shoots Lord Shiva with an arrow laced with bhang to make him fall in love with Goddess Parvati. Angry at being roused from his meditation, Shiva opens his third eye, and burns Kamadev to ashes. In honor of this, people drink bhang and play with colors.  Shop the Look:   For this festival, you’ll likely have to wake up quite early to set up for the Holika Dahan in the morning and then be ready to have a blast playing with colors for the rest of the day.   For the morning’s puja and bonfire, why not wear something light and simple, like Akshita Banj in Paksha’s Citrine Scorpio Zodiac Layered Gold Plated Silver Necklace, Aquamarine Pisces Zodiac Gold Plated Silver Earrings, and the Aquamarine Pisces Zodiac Gold Plated Silver Chain Bracelet. Wear this attractive set from our Nipuna Rasi collection, and then keep it safely before going off to play Holi with friends and family.   We recommend that you do not wear your Paksha jewelry while playing around water and colored pigments as they can stain your jewelry, while prolonged exposure to water without proper cleaning and timely drying could cause the gold-plated silver to tarnish and lose its sheen. Conclusion Now that you’ve had a look at our recommendations, it’s time to find what works for you! Indian Silver jewelry is timeless, easy to maintain, and has heirloom potential. Savor each memory you make with your Paksha jewelry, and don’t be afraid to switch it up! Follow our blogs to stay updated on the newest silver jewelry trends.
